Penetrating and often pervasive, the vapors of these essential oils open up the sinus and breathing passages, clearing away problems in the respiratory system brought on by colds, flu, sinusitis and hay fever. They can be used in vaporizers, inhalations, baths, or in blends for chest massage.
Cleansing Inhalant
The regular use of this Cleansing Inhalant is a pleasant way to keep breathing passages clear. Its fragrant fumes exert a stimulating and decongesting action on the lungs.
In a small wide-mouthed glass jar, preferably of dark glass, combine the following:
- 20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- 15 drops chamomile essential oil
- 5 drops rosemary essential oil
- 15 drops tolu balsam essential oil
- 5 drops peppermint essential oil
- 15 drops tincture of benzoin
To use the Cleansing Inhalant, shake the tightly closed jar, remove the top and inhale the fumes cautiously through your mouth. Hold your breath for about twenty seconds and exhale through pursed lips. Then inhale the fumes cautiously through one nostril, hold twenty seconds, and exhale through both nostrils. Repeat for the other nostril. You will feel this fragrant inhalant open the breathing passages that have been clogged and congested.
Not only does this combination of essential oils draw the phlegm out of the lungs, but other properties of the oils also calm the emotions, stimulate the mind and lift the mood.
Keep your Cleansing Inhalant in plain sight (out of the reach of children) wherever you will remember to use it several times during the day. Use it in the morning on arising, just before you go out walking, before you do your breathing exercises, and whenever you have a minute during the day.
