Parts Used: fresh petals
Source: 1. Essential oil or otto by water or steam distillation from the fresh petals of the damask rose. 2. A concrete and absolute by solvent extraction from the fresh petals.
Description and Odor Effect: 1. A pale yellow or olive yellow liquid with a very rich, deep, sweet-floral slightly spicy scent. 2. The absolute is a reddish-orange or olive viscous liquid with a rich, sweet, spicy-floral, tenacious odor. The fragrance of the oil is sweet and mellow with a hint of vanilla and clove, becoming mellower as the oil ages. The odor effect is intoxicating, antidepressant and warming; a reputed aphrodisiac.

Blends well with: jasmine, orange blossom, geranium, bergamot, lavender, clary sage, sandalwood, patchouli, benzoin, chamomile, clove, palmarosa
Physical Uses: Rose oil is effective in the treatment of broken capillaries, conjunctivitis (rose water), dry skin, eczema, herpes, mature and sensitive complexions and wrinkles. It is a circulatory stimulant, which is helpful for palpitations and poor circulation. The calming properties of rose have been employed for use in treating asthma, coughs and hay fever. Rose oil has been used for cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder), liver congestion and nausea. Rose oil is a powerful female-balancing oil which is helpful for irregular menstruation, leucorrhoea (inflammation or irritation of the membrane lining the genital organs of the female), menorrhagia (excessive menstrual discharge.) and uterine disorders.
Mental and Emotional Uses: Rose is a cool and relaxing oil, which can ease depression, insomnia, frigidity, headache, nervous tension and stress-related conditions.
Caution: Avoid during pregnancy.
In order to make the oil liquid, place the bottle in a cup of hand-warm water for about 30 seconds before use. Never use very hot water as this will have a detrimental effect on the oil.
